Where We WorkExcavating Across Mecosta County & Beyond
Based in the Big Rapids area, we run equipment throughout Mecosta County and into the neighboring corners of Osceola, Newaygo, and Montcalm counties. If you can see your town below, we can get a machine to it.
Mecosta County Communities
Our home turf. Same-week site walks are usually possible anywhere in the county.
Big Rapids
The county seat and our home base. In-town work skews toward drainage fixes, driveway rebuilds, garage demolitions, and projects on rental properties around Ferris State University — jobs where access is tight, tenants are living there, and the site has to stay clean. Outside the city limits, it's septic systems, basements, and full site prep.
Canadian Lakes
One of Michigan's largest private lake communities, and a steady source of our work: wooded lots cleared for new builds, walkout basements cut into rolling ground, septic systems designed around lakeside water tables, and gravel drives back to the water. We know the association's expectations and build to them.
Stanwood
The gateway to Canadian Lakes along US-131 and the Muskegon River corridor. New-construction site prep, pole barn pads, driveways, and septic work on the sandy ground that dominates the west side of the county.
Remus
Farm country on the county's east side, where the soil runs heavier than the Big Rapids sand. Pond digging, drainage projects, barn demolitions, and ag-related dirt work — priced with the clay pockets in mind, not discovered halfway through.
Mecosta & Rodney
The heart of the lakes district — School Section Lake, Round Lake, and the chain between them. Cottage tear-downs and rebuilds, septic replacements on older lake lots, and clearing for year-round homes as cottages get converted.
Paris
Just north of Big Rapids on old US-131, along the Muskegon River. Driveways, culverts, land clearing, and site prep for homes and hunting properties in the river corridor.
Morley
The south end of the county along US-131 and the Little Muskegon. Pond work, driveways, and building sites — an easy run for our equipment, so small jobs still make sense here.
Barryton
The county's northeast corner. Farm drainage, land clearing, demolition, and pond projects, with realistic scheduling for the extra road time.
Just Over the County Line
We regularly cross into the towns that border Mecosta County. Bigger projects justify longer runs — call and ask.
Reed City
North up US-131 in Osceola County, where the highway meets US-10. Site prep, septic systems, driveways, and demolition for homes and small commercial properties.
Evart
East along US-10 on the Muskegon River in Osceola County. Pond digging, land clearing, and drainage work for homes, farms, and recreational land.
Hersey & Sears
The smaller Osceola County towns between Reed City and Evart — driveways, septic work, and clearing without big-city travel charges.
Howard City & Lakeview
South into Montcalm County and the edge of Newaygo County — building pads, gravel drives, and pond work along the M-46 and M-82 corridors.
Not listed? If you're within about 45 minutes of Big Rapids, get in touch — the answer is usually yes, especially for full-scope projects like a cleared lot with a basement, septic, and driveway in one mobilization.
Every Township Digs a Little Different
The practical side of hiring a truly local excavator: we already know how the ground and the paperwork behave where you are. Septic permits across Mecosta County run through District Health Department #10, and each building department — City of Big Rapids, Green Township, Morton Township, and the rest — has its own rhythm for demolition and building permits. The road commission posts seasonal weight restrictions each spring that change how materials move. Sandy ground west of the Muskegon River digs differently than the loam toward Remus.
None of that is a problem when it's planned for. All of it is a change order when it isn't.
